Nottingham Thai Boxing Club
‘SINGNAKORNCHAI CAMP’

Under chief instructor Ajarn (Master) Lec from Thailand, the Singnakarnchai camp has been running in Nottingham for 15 years. Master Lec is a former champion Thai boxer with an impressive 400 fight record. He has lived, worked, and taught Muay Thai boxing in England since 1971.

Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and is a highly effective martial art which utilises the use of legs, fists, knees, and elbows in addition to grappling and throwing techniques. Modern day Muay Thai originates from techniques used in the numerous battles fought hundreds of years ago with the Burmese. Krabi Krabong (the weapons art of Thailand) and Muay Kaacheurk (fighting with bound fists) are the ancestors of modern day Muay Thai, where fighters now wear boxing gloves and fight to strict rules in the presence of a referee and judges, however Muay Thai retains the traditional elements including the Wai kru (paying respect to the teacher) and Ram Muay (ritual dance) which is performed before each fight by both boxers.

Muay Thai promotes physical fitness, flexibility, confidence, and the ability to defend yourself as well as respect and spiritual guidance whatever your religion.

All ages, whatever culture, whether male or female are welcome, training is only as hard as you want it to be, either keep fit or to box in the ring in front of several hundred people.

Master Lec is the UK’s most respected instructor of Muay Thai, he often stands in on international fights as the unpaid England coach. He gives seminars throughout England and has been widely acclaimed for his authentic training techniques. He does not do it for the money or reputation but for his passion for the sport and his students.

The camp has been fragmented at various sports halls for years and seeks a permanent site.

Mike and John Harman for many years have been involved with the club, helping with fight excursions and equipment supplies. It is their dream to see this club with a purpose built training centre that can accommodate Muay Thai, boxing and other martial arts in a purpose built centre of excellence. They believe that with Master Lec's supervision and skills this is too good an opportunity for our youngsters to miss out on.

The club is affiliated to the British Thai Boxing council and all club members are insured whilst training.

Training has been held for the last year at the RS&SC, but due to the limited facility has had to move to the Notts County fitness centre on Meadow Lane. Master Lec takes regular Sunday night classes from 5pm until 9pm He also undertakes special one to one training sessions if required.
