Rutland Angling Club

The angling club for many years was an integral part of our club. In the early years the club benefited from the fishing rights to the Grantham canal. Fishing day trips were frequently organised and an annual dinner was always organised (always with a late bar). A large stuffed Pike occupied the back wall of the club, caught by Frank Petefield in 1957 in a Lincolnshire drain on one such day out.

In the past 12 months one of our members, Alan Lowe has been in contact with Notts County Council estates office, with a view of leasing Pinders pond for club use. After initial interest drew a blank, we have recently recruited the services of Mr Kenneth Clarke, honourable Member of Parliament for Rushcliffe, who was happy to put some weight behind the clubs application, and guess what? Yes we have been offered the pond, being local many of our members learned to fish here and regard it with fondness. Our intention is to dredge and re-stock the pond to match standard. We have in our membership, carers working at Cheshire homes and Skylarks who have an interest in Angling. They have suggested it would be a golden opportunity to initiate some disabled angling in this area through our club.

Alan Lowe is acting as founder secretary whilst a membership is sought For further information email: lowie1806@yahoo.com
