Proposed New Rutland Hall

Traffic Volumes & Car Parking

Traffic volumes for the building in the future are very difficult to predict. There are 5,000 people within walking distance in the Lady Bay ward.

There is no prospect of any significant increase in car parking, which is adequate for the present light/under used building, without sacrificing the existing sporting facilities. However, clearing the patch of ground in front of Oak Tree Close, removing huts, tidying up boundaries and resurfacing and remarking bays will create 10 extra spaces giving an overall provision of about 70 spaces.

When we made an informal approach to Rushcliffe Borough Council for a very early proposal, which included a through route across the site, there were no highways objections. However, increased traffic and parking is likely to be the most sensitive issue in the neighbourhood. We must build a case based on the diversity of uses on offer, creating a spread of demand for car parking over the day to day life of the building, and where feasible encourage reduced vehicle use. Cycle parks, parking charges, car sharing schemes, and other alternatives will be considered. A full access statement will be required.
